The Simple Woman's Daybook: June 10, 2009

I have come across a delightful blog about which I have seen many buttons but have never looked into. Tonight as I sifted through the blogs I follow, I clicked a link of Sue’s to find this wonderful meme! To me, this idea helps me to be still and focus on the seemingly insignificant that impacts my life in mighty ways! This is the Simple Woman’s Daybook and I am so glad to participate! So sit back and relax as you read my answers and ask yourself the same questions….joy can be found, correction joy will be found, in Being Still before the Lord and appreciating every aspect of your day!

FOR TODAY June 10, 2009

Outside my window the sky is exhibiting its intense power with electrical magnificence. The soft tapping of pea sized hail is hitting my window and I should probably not be on the computer.

I am thinking that 4:45 is coming early tomorrow, but it is going to be great to sleep during the storms.

I am thankful for avoiding the severity of the storms about me by the protection of the Lord Almighty.

From the kitchen the aroma of the evening meal is still delicately stirring in the evening air.

From the learning rooms it seems that some lessons must be learned over and over and over. I want to get it right this time! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! (thank you Paul and thank you Jesus!)

I am wearing a comfy gray t-shirt given to me by my orthodontist for being such a great patient! (Yea!!! Dr. Montoya!)

I am creating an atmosphere of relaxation prior to turning out the lights and slipping off into a night’s rest.

I am going to be leaving early for Dallas tomorrow morning with my kids for their North Texas Jr. PGA golf tournament.

I am reading, Loving God with All Your Mind by Elizabeth George with a friend. So far it is molding my mind and shaping my thoughts to be more like HIS!

I am hoping that we will have our house repairs done by summer’s end.

I am hearing the roll of thunder as the second storm has settled upon my town. The rain is crashing upon my roof like ocean waves on the shore.

Around the house there are signs of life from a frisky little puppy and all his toys, an active 10 year old, and sweet 16 year old.

One of my favorite things is having a relationship with Jesus Christ! That is merely an understatement but it is by far my most favorite of all!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Saturday I am attending a Christian writer’s conference in Roanoke, TX. Next week will be housed in Central Texas for my son’s national tournament. Golfing and camping - you cannot beat it!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...This is a baby Mockingbird, one of two that were born in my holly bush and learned to fly in my front yard. Their parents were protective, but these little guys were too adorable to avoid. They have flown away now so if you read previous posts about my Real Life Hitchcock Experience you will be glad to know that my yard is safe once more....and so are the birds.

Please allow me to thank Peggy Hostetler...creator of 'The Simple Woman's Daybook' for sharing her ideas with us all and allowing us to participate!

Thank you Peggy!!! Please visit her site to learn more on how you may participate as well. http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/

The Birds were at it again....

The schwans man came by today and as I warned him of the Mockingbirds one dove for his head!!! To see what I am talking about see yesterday's post.

The babies are growing and climbing all in my holly bush. We can hear them but no longer see them.

(This was his first day out of the nest.)

You also need to know that this is the perfect weather to be enjoying my porch swing at night and I am too scared to sit on it!!! I need to move it until the birds fly away.

If I had the zoom lens for my camera I could show you a baby hawk. Our church has a cell phone tower and on top you can find a hawk and her young!!! But alas, I cannot show you. :(

So I hope you enjoyed the newest pics of the Mockingbirds!!!

Real Life Alfred Hitchcock Experience

I have lived through a Hitchcock experience!! I was so scared for my life....a bird tried to attack me, not once, not twice, but three times so far!! I may have nightmares!!!

My experience was not quite like the movie , The Birds, because these protected and protective Mockingbirds had a reason for their behavior: they feared for their young. This made me think of times when I have protected my children and the many times that God has protected His (you and me). Have you ever guarded your young in this way? I know I have and boy does it put on a display!!! Have you also noticed that when your children are threatened you give no care to the size of the adversary?

(He saw me!!)

Mockingbirds have made and filled a nest in my holly bush with two precious baby birds. They are very protective birds!!! Guarding their young with no fear of their adversaries is what they do until the young leave their nest. These birds have attacked me, my daughter, the neighbor's cat, and countless other birds in my yard. The funniest thing was the poor white cat laying as flat as possible in the grass with the bird violently swooping down upon his head. That was a sight for sure! Our God fears not what this world throws our way and definitely does not cower down in the grass fearing for His life.

Here is one of the two birds guarding over the nest and keeping watch over the area for signs of danger. This bird was on high alert and let me know it verbally as well. Isn't this exactly how we are with our children? Remember the days of sitting at the playground and watching over every possible exit or entry way for danger? And weren't you ready to swoop down upon the head of those from whom you sensed a threat? I wonder if people shudder with fear at the sight of us? Ha! Not likely. But there is One parent that others should fear with trembling and shaking, The Lord God Almighty, Our Father!

The Mockingbirds took turns watching over the nest. One would call and another would show up all fluffy and "big" looking to protect the nest. God watches over us in this way as well; He sends His angels concerning us (Psalm 91). Throughout Psalms we see the Unfailing Love and Protection for our lives and souls.

So the next time you fear that Mockingbird swooping down upon your head and you hear the chirping of the little ones in the nest, remember the protection of the Lord. He is watching over you and will be protecting you eternally if you trust and call His Name! Psalm 91:14, "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him for he acknowledges My Name."
